M.S. - Personal comments from sufferers

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.

Comment

Cannabis relieves spasticity and other symptoms I continue to smoke or vaporize this product although not legal in my state because it significantly reduces my spasticity, muscle spasm symptoms as well as anxiety associated with my illness. I recommend being careful of source, ensuring no pesticide use and non mouldy storage and controlling its source best as possible

Comment

legalize it, change schedule to have medical value In my state, we have medicinal marijuana. It helps my spasms and pain as well as improves mood. (Vicodin does little for this kind of pain so I welcome the relief without the sedative effects.)

Comment

In a class of it's own for me! This is a good fix for instant pain relief and as the effects of it wear off within hours, so it is easy to find a balance between pain relief and being stoned all the time. It is especially good before bedtime as it relaxes and eases those spasms.

Weed for my MS headaches I've been smoking long before my diagnosis, so it was inevitable I would continue. I've seen first hand the effect pot can have on cancer patients who cannot eat because of chemo. My results are similar. I've had to limit my use to strictly for my ms because I can't function like I used to after smoking. Since my diagnosis I have had headaches that last for days/weeks. These are when I smoke. It's the only thing that puts the pain away. I do have the "side effects" but that's why I started way back when. It doesn't mix well with my provigil either, but since I get the purple hairy kind, it sort of works like caffeine, go figure. I don't know if you can prove scientifically that it relieves my symptoms, but after I smoke, I know I don't think about MS as much.

smokin' at 38! Well, I was hesitant to post on this remedy, but in my home state the just passed legislation to legalize - BUT they have no plan on how that will be done. With that said, I just recently tried using pot to see if I could get any relief from the spasms in my entire body - I do have to say it does help and it has also increased my appetite-which for me is a good thing, since during this last flare, I lost 24 pounds and I'm 6 feet tall and only weighed 140 to begin with. I don't like the fact that I have to buy it and risk getting caught and going to jail - I do have 2 little ones, I only smoke at night after they have gone to bed and take 2 hits from the pipe.(also helps sleeping, so less Klonipin) I can't roll a joint because of shaky unstable hands, So there you have it - my input for what it is worth is there is a place for marijuana for medical purposes, like MS and cancer. It works, plain and simple.

Miracle drug that needs to be legalized I do not know what I would do without the help of marijuana for my MS. It helps with nausea and basically all of my MS symptoms, including stiffness/pain, especially the day after my Avonex injection. It also really helps with the mental aspect of being diagnosed with an incurable progressive neurological disease (that's pretty hard to deal with most of the time). It is disheartening to know that such heavy duty drugs such as, Tysabri, can be so quickly marketed & with such serious side effects, as with all of the prescribed MS drugs, but I know that I will not see Marijuana legalized in my lifetime, even though it helps so many of us with MS & other chronic diseases with no serious side effects other than maybe sleepiness & the munchies.

Use of Marijuana for MS Pain I have pain in my mostly in my arms and sometimes in my legs...the pain is bad enough that I have to take Neurontin at 3600 to 4200 mls a day. I am only 145 lbs so the my dose it pretty much at its maximum...and I was only diagnosed not even 3 years ago (May of 2003), so we have had to increase the Neurontin frequently. I only smoke MJ when my pain is bad even with my Neurontin and it seems really seems to help me, but then again, you know you are high and it is just a side-effect?...but still if it helps my pain it helps me! I just hope it can be put out legally soon to help others like me who have pain from their MS to be able to use it to help them as well and not have to do it illegally.

Comment

Medi-juana It works! Not only does relieve joint pains, depression of knowing that you have a life altering disease with no cure yet, (it is my belief) relaxes the MS germs from scarring axons.

Comment

Amazing results This stops my spasticity immediately. It also helps relax my muscle cramping. It's so immoral that the pharmaceutical industry keeps this wonderful source of calm. As the philosopher, Spinoza said: 'All laws which can be violated without doing anyone any injury are laughed at... He who tries to determine everything by law will foment (encourage) crime rather than lessen it.'

Comment

cannabis is the only answer Cannabis is the only thing that works. i am so tired of not being able to have access to it. i do not understand the politics. it is a natural herb and is treated as a crime. i am so disillusioned as i know it helps and i never seem to be able to access it. i am real discouraged and depressed. i know this really will not matter to anyone but i believe it is the real aid and it is much more of a crime not to be able to have any type of access.

Comment

Stiff neck is gone I tried all of the muscle relaxants and this one is one that finally gave me back my life. My neck used to be stiff every day, but with this I no longer have a stiff neck.

Comment

Marijuana Relaxes me, legs not so tight, don't stumble as much

Comment

Great for Spasms This drug works great for muscle spasms and restless legs.

Comment

Good Stuff! It's ALL good. No more jumpy legs and shaky hands!!

Comment

Cannabis I have used it as I could get it for a couple of years. Using a vaporizer was a vast improvement! I find it helps with spasticity, and bladder problems and weirdly enough I have more energy. Maybe that's because I sleep so much better with it. I checked sativa as athe brand but that's only because the site demands a choice. I'd use either sativa or indica.

WORKS FOR ME WORKS FOR ME

Comment

Good for body and soul I find it totally relaxes me. Relaxes my stomach. I am a quadriplegic and very rarely get to feel so relaxed. It definitely works for me. I don't get to smoke often,.I never turned down the opportunity.

Comment

heat be gone This remarkable alternative has helped me battle the heat sensitivity that has plagued me for over 2 years. I sweat bullets in seconds -usually after a stress. I have proof to show that I am better off after tring the B drug then the A drug and then the C drug. all within 18 months. They were all rejected by my body- severe flu and severe reaction sites. So I wonder how soon we can rest in knowing we don’t need the needles anymore. The doctors don't really know if the injection 'therapies' are helping-or not. I'm not gambling that way. Who said "The weed is only a flower in your mind.." For me I need my weed. until there is more convincing news otherwise. may the ms'ers be comforted and strengthened. stay positive-avoid the stress-it'll kill ya

Comment

I Prefer not to Smoke Anything..... ...so my preference is to cook my cannabis rather than smoking it, usually baked into little muffins. But I can't usually afford to do that, because resources are very scarce and cooking it takes more quantity. If it were legal for medical use, we'd have all sorts of healthier (than smoking) ingestion choices, like the cannabis oral spray they have in Canada, those lucky ducks.

Unbelievable At some point, we need to stop and ask our government, as well as all it's bureaucratic agencies, if they haven't missed he forest for the trees. After 18 years with M.S., and the last five with muscle spasms so severe they knock me out of bed - all night long - a friend told me to try the killer weed - that it would help. I already took the maximum amount of tizanidine, valium and neurontin that can be taken without totally poisoning my liver. So I did it - as much as I hated the thought of inhaling smoke - I did it. WOW !!! I slept straight through the night. My wife was amazed. No spasms whatsoever. She was actually able to sleep in bed with me too - all throughout the night !!! To make thing even better, I woke up free of the neuropathic pain that so often keeps me from even getting out of bed - and none of the side effects like severe hepa-toxicity and hallucinations that I experience with the higher doses of tizanidine Having grown up in the Bible belt, what can I say but "Thank you Lord !!!" And shame, shame, shame on our government and the FDA. This should've been approved for people like me and my cohorts decades ago. If they send the DEA out to pick me up in my wheelchair and have me hauled to prison, I am honored. They better be careful though - I have no bladder or bowel control so they could be in for a surpise. <SMILE>

Miracle Herb - Marijuana Several years ago I was given a joint by my request from my then MS Support Group leader & have been using it occasionally ever since ! After smoking it in the evening, the positive effects last into the following day. It's far more effective than Baclofen & increases the strength in my legs. I only use it a couple times each month, as it's cost & availability prohibits me from using it more frequently. It's a crime that this isn't made more readily available, not the use of it!

Comment

Wish they would legalize it already I wish that someone with some level of law making ability would listen to us... we can't all be wrong! I'm not a pothead, I consider myself to be a responsible, professional adult. When the pain gets bad, nothing helps like this does. My best days during a relapse are the ones where I smoke a little and soak in a tub for two hours. No pain, very relaxed... I can't believe that this country has such a problem with a natural, HERBAL remedy (but only in some states??)that is no more addictive than chocolate. Yes, I have tried the Baclofen, etc... I still say that MJ is better than any man made chemical out there. Only side effect that I wish I could do something about is 'the munchies' ~~~ but I keep my fridge stocked with fresh fruit for those evenings... watermelon works best, helps get rid of the dry mouth too!

Saved my Life I suffer horrible neuropathic pain in my legs from MS. The doc and I have tried at least 10 different drugs and none work at all. One day I was sitting in my kitchen looking at the big knives and thinking "I need to get out of here, life sucks and I just hurt too much". That day I went to the doc and he gave me Clonazepam which is an addictive controlled substance. I can only take it at night because it 'knocks me out'. If I have the pain at night -who knows? The days can be absolutely evil due to the electric shocks in my legs. I bought a VaporWarz vaporizer to smoke marijuana without all the smell and pollutants and found it's much more effective than smoking joints or out of a pipe. When the pain comes, I take 3 or 4 hits and BANG, the pain impulses can't seem to penetrate the buzzing (pleasant) feeling I get from the MJ, thus NO PAIN for at least 3-4 hours. I've volunteered to the ACLU drug reform org to actually have an FBI lie detector test to prove it relieves my pain if they need my testimony. Like Montel Williams says (God Bless his courage) "we aren't trying to make marijuana legal, we just want to change it from a Class 1 drug to a Class 2 drug." Class 1 drugs are deemed by the FDA to be extremely addictive with no medical value (includes heroin and marijuana). Class 2 drugs are extremely addictive but do have some medical value (morphine and cocaine) but can be prescribed by a doctor. By the way, marijuana is no more addictive than chocolate and years ago I knew students studying engineering in college with straight A averages and long time taxi drivers with perfect driving records that were habitual mj smokers. The pharmaceutical and alcohol lobbies are scared to death of any type of marijuana legalization. They are afraid if even approved as a Class 2 drug, the word will get out and their sales will suffer. I spend about $200 per 1/2 oz. and it lasts for about 4 months.

Comment

marijuana Much more effective than baclofen or Zanaflex. It gives me a sense of well-being and completely relaxes my spastic muscles.

Comment

Hate to use it but love the results! I was introduced to Cannabis by friends of mine after I was having severe trouble sleeping for months on end. I did not want to start using narcotics but have not looked back once since it gave me a full 12 hours sleep (bliss!) on my first attempt of using it. I smoke it mainly in a pipe but have tried digesting it from cookies; that experience stopped me doing that again!!! I absolutely hated the dry mouth that you get when you digest it, but still the pain and spasm relief cannot compare with other drugs I have tried and when you are paying for different prescriptions all the time for the separate legal drugs you may as well pay less for a bag of cannabis which does it all in one swoop.

Comment

Smoking I used cannabis during the year I did Novantrone (chemo). I was nauseas the whole time, and never had an appetite. Now I use it when my muscles are tight, with some pain. I chose not to take a bunch of pills.

Comment

Marijuana I have had RRMS for 15 years. The first 10 were years of denial in which I would use wine to cope. I have been hospitalized many times for extreme pain. Have had every test under the sun, nuclear, scans, etc. In 2000 I came to terms with this disease, quit the wine and began Copaxone. I have used marijuana for about a year and have absolutely no pain at all, ever.

Comment

Marijuana It should be legal !! At least for those of us suffering and in pain :( I am lucky that my hubby makes pot cookies for me :) We have a recipe that works great believe it or not.

Comment

Cannibis Sativa Used for many years, years ago. Definitely helped with pain and spasms.

Comment

cannabis It does help me with pain and spasticity. Also it helps with the day to day nerves (not knowing what it going to happen next with ms). It does have a relaxant effect on me and some of my fellow friends who live with MS. It can take your mind off of what's happening to you and you can relax a bit. I really wish it were not illegal. We don't abuse the stuff and it can be quite expensive to use. I say legalize it for medicinal purposes!!

Comment

Safe, few side effects I found Marijuana to be a very good medicine. I have problems with alcohol abuse on and off and did not feel addicted to pot, can forget to use it if I'm not in a pain situation. It does not completely rid me of extreme pain, does make it much easier to cope with. I had severe pain at night and made brownies with pot from a recipe and one brownie 4 hours before bed and slept very well, lasts all night, downside is the amount you need of pot for brownies. I find 2 puffs will help with pain in my legs and my bad depressed mood from the pain that I want to go garden or other activities. I don't get high on 2 puffs, just more relaxed. At times it will make me sleepy, lathargic.

Comment

What it seems to have done for me What it seems to have done for me is decrease my stress level (which I feel contributes greatly to the amount and severity of exacerbations), makes me hungry so I can eat, and possibly helps in other areas too as in a report i just read from - http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v03/n1447/all.html - and eases the pains that I have to deal with on a daily basis.

Comment

Cannabis In my state Cannabis is legal for medical reasons if you can find a DR. to sign the paperwork for you. The reason that is a problem is because of the federal government. I take a lot of prescription drugs a lot worse for you than this. I wish the government would understand.

Comment

Marijuana This naturally grown or pharmacy type of medication has none of the side effects of the anti-spasm medicines. It is a great replacement for Zanaflex or Topomax.

Comment

MS and marijuana I have had MS for 6 yrs on and off. Main symptoms are fatigue and muscle spasms. 2 puffs off a joint is all I need to stop the spasms almost instantly, sometimes legs feel like they won't hold me up anymore because of the spasms, after 2-3 simple puffs I can LITERALLY jump up and down without any (or minimal) spasms in my legs and then I can go about my daily life for quite a few hours before I feel any spasms coming back. I'm a mother of 2, not a stoner. Just doing what I have to so I can be functional.

Comment

cannabis the only problem with cannabis is the laws misapplication in prosecuting medicinal users

Comment

MJ is wonderful Like it. My MS symptoms go back ten years or more before a major relapse. MJ prevented me for showing any symptoms until after I had temporarily stopped smoking it.

Comment

It should be legalized for medicinal purposes. I had heard about MJ being used to relieve some of the symptoms of MS. I have been dealing with Doctors giving meds that my body was rejecting. I seem to get all the side effects of the conventional medications used to treat MS. Since I have started to use MJ to treat symptoms such as pain and muscle spasms I have seen an enormous improvement. It also helps me to sleep without the unwanted side effects. As I read in another review, MJ was created by the almighty. He knows more than we do and its all natural. Maybe others will get a clue.

Comment

Saved my life Cannabis has given me quality of life.

Comment

Cannabis Smoking cannabis does stereotype you a little but you don't have to tell anyone. It helps me with the inner unwell feeling, I could still lose my footing and fall over but you will lose that inner horrid feeling.

Comment

marijuana i think that marijuana also helps with side effects from MS medicine

Comment

It should be legal This drug is illegal and it is a shame. It is illegal because we all know it would put some very powerful drug companies out of business. After endless prodding by my family and friends, I begrudgingly agreed to try Cannabis. These are the people who push my wheelchair and massage my legs when I winced from spasms caused by my MS. If our supposedly astute law makers had my complications they would legalise Cannabis for medical purposes TODAY. Yes, Marinol will give you the THC, but Cannabis contains 30 other Cannabinoids that I believe ease spasticity and general suffering that Marinol does not provide. Hopefully someday soon Cannabis will be legal for the medically ill.

In the Garden It is clearly ridiculous that this substance is viewed so negatively. Used judiciously, and with common sense, it is one of the best pain management/spasticity treatments available and can improve your personal outlook immensely. Hemp oil is also outstanding. The Bible refers to "every herb bearing seed" so the overly righteous governmental hypocrits might think twice if one of them were faced with the challenge of MS. I bet they would consider religion appropriately at that point rather than when it is convenient or is being used only to their advantage. This herb was in the Garden of Eden. Do your research and free the weed for those who need it.

Comment

marijuana I had to resort to this option due to lack of my Neuro's willingness to deal with my "invisible symptoms" of pain and muscle spasticity. It works amazingly well for me. Significant relief of pain. Because it is illegal, there is the added stress of knowing that this is not an "accepted" therapy. Cost is also an expense, but the trade off is the relief of the sometimes unbearable pain. I have experienced no negative side effects.

Comment

Marijuana I have used this method of pain relief when nothing else would work. It definitely helps and should be used as an alternative pain relieving method for anyone with chronic pain. Everyone needs to "loosen up" about this wonderful drug that helps so many people deal with debilitating pain.

Comment

Needs to be decriminalized I worked for some time in Holland. There, it is freely available as both marijuana and hashish and very reasonably priced. Used daily to offset the effects of MS, I found it to be extremely effective. Normally, I require the use of a cane when walking. After using marijuana daily for approximately 3 weeks, I was able to walk freely for a much longer time before needing the cane. After returning to the US, the effects persisted for some time (nearly a week) before diminishing. If marijuana was decriminalized in this country, my life, and that of untold numbers, could be greatly enhanced.

Comment

It has helped me more than anything. I have MS, Lupus, and another auto-immune disease. For a year I used only Marijuana. For those who have had conviction about using Marijuana read Gen 1:29. The year prior to this the docs had me on 28 pills a day and I was getting worse. When I'm having a bad flare-up I sometimes have to go back on other meds but for the most Marijuana helps more with less side effects than any of the meds I have tried..I was on 4800 mg of neurontin a day plus 7 other meds. that didn't seem to help much. And they doubt you or act like you are a drug addict when you say Marijuana works for you. Man can't supplement what God has given us. If it works don't knock it!! To bad the medical field and the government doesn't seem to see the positive side of the this

NOTE: Even though Cannabis is the oldest proven medication on earth, it has been discriminated against and forcefully eradicated in favour of ‘ever new, ever so-called improved, toxic waste’ with added side effects, Pharmaceutical drugs, which even judges (who are supposed to be unbiased) are now forcing people under the symbol of the Medical Reich, or the One Kingdom Policy, to get off the medicinal herb, cannabis, and get onto Big Pharma’s massive collection of Designer Death Drugs - drugs designed with death in mind (which is why they are toxic) - and if they don’t, then they are subjected to discrimination , racist hatred, persecution , condemnation and eradication of their beliefs, freedoms, traditions and doctrine. This is where the word pre-judice comes into it, as Judges are already biased, prejudiced and completely on the side of Drug cartels protected by themselves, the Government, the Police, the Media and any other vested interest looking to make a buck out of drug dealing and people’s suffering. This apartheid practice must be stopped.
